Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Calling out all adventure seeking enthusiasts, for a once in a lifetime opportunity!
This August Bank Holiday weekend, we will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
The aim of the challenge will be to walk this 24 mile route within 12 hours on Saturday 26th August.
The ultimate goal of this challenge is to further engage the whole community by raising much needed funds for the new Islamic Centre Maidenhead.
If you’re a determined individual, own a decent pair of walking shoes, then we need you!
The Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk tackles the three peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in one 25-mile circular route. Whernside is the highest point in Yorkshire, and the whole route is contained within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The challenge is to complete it in under 12 hours.
There is no cost for this, but you need to raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship. Please see attached a Sponsorship form for your use. All monies raised will be for the Maidenhead Islamic Centre. Ps, £250 is the minimum – How high can you go!
A Coach has been arranged to take us all – Arrival at Maidenhead Masjid by 9.30pm for check-in and a 10pm departure on Friday 25th August – We intend on sleeping on the coach journey to Yorkshire. We expect to leave Yorkshire just after Sunset – with our return to Maidenhead Masjid just before midnight on Saturday 26th August
We will arrive at Yorkshire Dales National Park Car Park, BD24 0HG between 4:45am and 5:15am, with the aim of starting the walk at 6:30 sharp. There are toilets at this car park, with a drinking water tap on the outside of the toilet building. Sunrise on that day will be around 6:05am. So we can pray Fajr there, or at Lancaster services, where there is a prayer room. Sunset on that day will be around 8:15pm. The coach is scheduled to pick us up at 7pm for the return journey
The plan is to take on Pen y Ghent then Whernside and finally Ingleborough, before returning to the starting point. The route is just over 25 miles long and is to be completed in under 12 hours.
From start to the end of Pen y Ghent is to take 4hrs 30mins. Whernside is to take 3hrs 30mins and Ingleborough to the finish is to take 4hrs. As it is a time challenge, participants will only be allowed to carry on to the next mountain if they start it no later than 20 minutes after the target time for the first peak and then an additional 20 minutes for the second peak.
If someone drops out after the first peak, due to health or time, then they will be required to walk to Ribblehead station and take the train back to Horton. If someone then drops out after Whernside, we will have a car stationed at that point and they will be taken to Ribblehead station to take the train back to Horton
10:51am, 12:22pm, 4:15pm and 5:43pm. The train journey takes about 7 minutes and takes to within 10 minutes walk from the starting location. The cost of the ticket is £3.80.
